I bought this for a gift for a teenage girl, hoping I might be able to upgrade it to my mom, who is well versed in the various quality of stones & metals. Unfortunately this will not be suitable for my mom, but for my daughter it's just fine. The bracelet is stamped as sterling. The gold overlay is unknown - no markings for it so I'm going to assume it's just that - a gold tone overlay (they should have left it as sterling). The stone is pretty and is not a plastic Opal Simulant, it also is not a doublet or triplet. It's a laboratory version called a Gilson Opal. Still very pretty and not cheap, perhaps a bit easier to keep than the real thing as you don't need to worry about temperature differences fracturing it, but it has the lizard skin pattern within that is tell-tale of these.
I had hoped we were looking at a mined opal -- for this price it would have been a steal ;)
For the price I paid ($35 on lightning deal & sold out within 15 minutes) This is a decent item. Worth the money for the sterling and a nice stone, but IMHO, not worth much more.Get more detail about Yellow Gold Overlay Sterling Silver Opal & Diamond Bangle Bracelet.
